Ukraine launches massive drone attack on Moscow, disables seven Wildberries logistics hubs

On August 16, 2026, Ukraine conducted one of its largest drone attacks of the war, launching approximately 600 drones toward the Moscow region. The strike set ablaze Wildberries' largest warehouse in Koledino (250,000 sq m) and hit a second facility in Domodedovo, disabling seven of the retailer's ten largest logistics centers. Russian officials reported at least seven deaths across the country, including five in the Rostov region, and claimed to have intercepted 822 drones. In retaliation, Russian strikes on Ukraine killed at least seven people, including two at the ArcelorMittal steel plant in Kryvyi Rih, and damaged a book market in Kyiv. The attacks mark a significant escalation in long-range strikes, with NATO jets intercepting drones over Romania and Latvia.

Russia rejects Black Sea ceasefire as Ukraine grain exports collapse 76%

Background: Since mid-July, Russian strikes on civilian shipping have halted Ukraine's Black Sea grain corridor, with the UN Security Council convening an emergency meeting and attacks killing sailors. Today: On August 14, Russia formally rejected a Black Sea ceasefire proposal, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stating Moscow saw no grounds for such measures. The proposal had been floated by Ukraine and Turkey, but Zakharova said Moscow received no formal proposal from Ankara and ruled out reviving the 2022-23 grain deal. Ukrainian grain exports fell 76% year-on-year in August, and the Agriculture Ministry projects agricultural exports could nearly halve to 29.6 million tonnes, with silos expected to fill by October. The ministry has requested €220 million from the EU to subsidize farm loans and support autumn sowing. Ukraine and Moldova are discussing a rail corridor to Romania's Constanța port, though it could carry only 10% of Ukraine's grain exports. The US Department of Agriculture projects corn exports could fall 39% and wheat exports 26%, with unsold corn stocks rising more than tenfold.
