The driver, Shaun Burton, a former councillor, was killed and about 100 people were injured. The manager, despite being injured, took emergency action to prevent further disaster by placing circuit clips to stop other trains. The line between Bedford and Luton is expected to remain closed until 28 June for repairs, including replacing 600 meters of track.
