President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the creation of an 'anti-ballistic coalition' with European partners during an evening address on Tuesday, following a high-level meeting in Kyiv that brought together national security advisers from 13 partner nations and a representative from the office of the NATO Secretary General.
"We are steadily advancing the issue of anti-ballistic capabilities production in Europe – we are forming an anti-ballistic coalition," Zelensky said. "Right now, we are closer to a result than ever before."
The initiative is focused on producing anti-ballistic capabilities in Europe as Ukraine continues to face Russian missile and drone attacks. Zelensky said Ukraine is also coordinating with the US on air defense.
Industrial partnerships are already taking shape. Local Ukrainian arms developer Fire Point, manufacturer of the Flamingo cruise missile, has entered active negotiations with major European defense contractors to co-develop and launch new air defense systems.
Zelensky said Ukraine's air defense intercepts more than 90% of Russian attack drones, but protection against ballistic threats remains a critical gap. In April, Zelensky warned that the war in the Middle East could put Ukraine's access to anti-ballistic missile supplies at greater risk.
