Russian drone strike on Odesa civilian infrastructure injures 11, including two children

A Russian drone strike on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine's Odesa region on May 27 injured 11 people, including two children aged 11 and 12, Odesa Regional Military Administration Head Oleh Kiper said.

Eight victims were hospitalized, with three people remaining in serious condition, according to regional authorities. The victims suffered shrapnel wounds, burns, blast injuries, limb injuries, traumatic brain injuries and acute stress reactions.

The strike damaged residential buildings, a Nova Poshta branch, a grocery store, a pet shop, and several vehicles, sparking a large fire covering 1,700 square meters. Emergency workers reported that a dog was killed in the pet shop.

"Enemy drones deliberately attacked civilian infrastructure in our region," Kiper said.

Ukraine's Air Force said Russia launched 163 drones overnight, including Shahed attack drones, decoy drones and jet-powered UAVs from multiple directions inside Russia, including the Kursk, Bryansk and Oryol regions. Ukrainian air defenses destroyed or suppressed 150 aerial targets by 8:30 a.m. across northern, southern and eastern Ukraine. Direct drone strikes were recorded at seven locations, while debris from intercepted drones fell in four separate areas.

Chernihiv, a northern Ukrainian city near the border with Belarus and Russia, also came under attack in the early hours of Wednesday, with around 15 explosions reported, according to Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, head of the Chernihiv City Military Administration. The strike there damaged warehouse facilities, an administrative building, equipment and several vehicles, local authorities said.
