Russia strikes Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Ministry in 90-missile, 600-drone Kyiv attack

Russia struck Kyiv overnight on May 23-24 with 90 missiles and 600 drones, including an Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile, damaging the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Ministry buildings, two museums, a philharmonic hall, a theatre, a library, a university, a church, a monastery and around 30 residential buildings. Two people were killed and 81 injured in the capital; four were killed and roughly 100 injured across Ukraine, and a Hrushevskoho Street block containing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's flat was hit. The attack follows May 20 strikes that killed four across six regions and a 1,567-drone, 56-missile two-day assault on May 13-14.

The headquarters of Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers was damaged in Russia's overnight missile and drone strike on Kyiv on May 23-24, with windows blown out by a blast and no one injured at the building, Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko said on X. "Being unable to break Ukraine, suffering immense losses militarily and economically, the aging Russian dictator has nothing else", Svyrydenko added in a statement on the aftermath of the strike.

In Kyiv, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, a theatre, a philharmonic hall, two museums, a library, a university, a church, a monastery and an unspecified number of architectural landmarks were also damaged. A residential block at 9a Hrushevskoho Street that contains flats belonging to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and to Tymur Mindich, a businessman who is the subject of Ukrainian sanctions, was hit; no injuries were reported at that address.

Across Ukraine, four people were killed and around 100 injured. In Kyiv alone, two were killed and 81 injured, with approximately 30 residential buildings damaged or destroyed. Russia used 90 missiles and 600 drones of various types in the combined strike, including an Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile.

The Kyiv attack continues a pattern of intensifying Russian strikes through May: a 1,567-drone, 56-missile two-day barrage on May 13-14 destroyed part of a nine-storey Kyiv residential block in Darnytskyi district, May 20 strikes killed four civilians across six regions, and overnight strikes on May 22-23 killed four more in Kherson and Kharkiv oblasts.
