Monthly consumer prices climbed 4.18%, up from 1.9% in March and above the Reuters poll forecast of 3.28%, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), which released the data on May 4, 2026.
The biggest monthly price rises were in the clothing and footwear sector at 8.94%, followed by housing at 7.99%. Transport sector prices rose 4.29% month-on-month, while food and drinks sector prices increased 3.7%.
The domestic producer index rose 3.17% month-on-month in April, for an annual increase of 28.59%.
The central bank kept main interest rates steady last month. In its monetary policy committee statement, it flagged rising inflation risks, citing fallout from the Iran war and potential second-round effects.
