Ukrainian forces liberate Odradne village in Kharkiv Oblast after six months of Russian occupation

Ukraine's 129th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade liberated the village of Odradne in northeastern Kharkiv Oblast on 15 May, the 16th Army Corps confirmed. Russia had occupied the village since 22 November 2025. The operation recovered roughly 22 km² of territory and killed 56 Russian troops, according to the corps.

Ukraine's 129th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade liberated the village of Odradne in northeastern Kharkiv Oblast on 15 May, the 16th Army Corps confirmed. Russia had occupied the village since 22 November 2025.

The operation recovered roughly 22 km² of territory, including the village, and killed 56 Russian troops, according to the corps. The 129th Brigade reported on Facebook that its storm units conducted assault operations, inflicted fire damage on Russian positions, and pushed Russian troops out of treelines, fortified positions, and strongpoints. UAV operators and artillery worked in coordination with storm units to identify, strike, and destroy enemy manpower, fire assets, and shelters.

Ukrainian OSINT monitoring project DeepState reported that "new tactics of war bring results," that Russian forces took significant losses in defense, and that those who could escape did so by fleeing. DeepState's map confirmed Ukrainian control of Odradne.

The Institute for the Study of War considers Russia's operations around the city of Kupiansk and the wider Oskil River area its "Russian Subordinate Main Effort #2," with the stated Russian objective of crossing the river and pushing westward into eastern Kharkiv Oblast and northern Donetsk Oblast. Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for Ukraine's Joint Forces Grouping, said Russia's push on Kupiansk from the north was losing effectiveness. The ISW reported on 14 May that Ukrainian forces recently advanced in the Sloviansk direction in Donetsk Oblast.
