Self-reform is essential for the Party to retain its advanced and pure nature. These are intrinsic features of a Marxist party, but they are not something we can take for granted or maintain once and for all. They must be tempered through constant self-reform. As Marx and Engels pointed out, “The revolutionising class can only in a revolution succeed in ridding itself of all the muck of ages and become fitted to found society anew.” Lenin said, “The vanguard must fearlessly engage in self-education and self-transformation, openly admitting its inadequacies in knowledge and ability,” and “We shall reach the summit only if we have the courage to admit our shortcomings and deficiencies and devise ways to overcome them, time and time again.” Comrade Mao Zedong once used a vivid analogy to remind the whole Party: “A room has to be swept every day, or the dust will pile up. Our faces have to be washed every day, or they will get grimy. Similarly, our minds and our work must be swept and washed every day to prevent dust and grime from accumulating.”

Our Party does not exist in a vacuum; there are always factors that weaken the Party's advanced nature and harm its purity, and viruses that erode the health of the Party's body are everywhere. We must face and resolve the contradictions and problems within the Party with a spirit of self-revolution. In the course of over a century of struggle, the Party has led the people to achieve one great success after another and overcome one difficulty and danger after another. Despite being tempered through numerous trials, it remains vibrant and enjoys the support and endorsement of the people. The reason lies in the Party's courage to confront its own problems, its commitment to self-revolution, its constant maintenance of advanced nature and purity, its continuous enhancement of creativity, cohesion, and combat effectiveness, and its perpetual preservation of the true character of a Marxist political party.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, in the face of significant risks and challenges confronting the Party and the prominent issues within the Party, the Party Central Committee, with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, has resolutely turned the blade inward, undertaking drastic measures to cure serious ailments and enforce strict discipline to rectify disorder. The comprehensive and strict governance of the Party has achieved remarkable results that are evident to all. The Party has become stronger and more robust through revolutionary tempering, with significant enhancements in its political leadership, ideological guidance, ability to organize the masses, and social appeal. At the same time, our Party is clearly aware that some deep-rooted issues within the Party have not been fundamentally resolved, and there is always the possibility of old problems resurfacing. A slight relaxation could lead to a resurgence, and new problems continue to emerge. The "four major tests" and "four major dangers" that the Party faces will persist for a long time.

Under new historical conditions, the key to maintaining the Party's Marxist character lies within the Party itself. Only by thoroughly carrying out the Party's great self-revolution, continuously removing impurities, eliminating viruses, and preventing contamination, can the Party's advanced nature and purity be preserved, ensuring that the Party never changes its quality, color, or essence.

Self-reform is essential for the Party to steer the great social revolution. The fundamental purpose of our Party’s self-reform is to better steer the great social revolution. When the CPC was founded, it solemnly stated in its program that “the fundamental political aim of the Party is to carry out social revolution.” A social revolution can only achieve final victory after a long historical process. To ensure that the Party remains a strong leading force throughout this process, it is imperative that Communists always uphold lofty revolutionary ideals, temper their revolutionary will, and cultivate fine conduct and strong capabilities. In other words, they must never stop carrying out self-reform.

Currently, our country is comprehensively advancing the construction of a strong nation and the great cause of national rejuvenation through Chinese-style modernization. The social revolution led by the Party has embarked on a new journey, an unprecedented pioneering endeavor. On this path forward, we are bound to encounter a multitude of entirely new challenges, face various difficulties and obstacles, and undergo significant tests of high winds and rough seas, even stormy waves. Internationally, the once-in-a-century transformation is accelerating, with unilateralism, protectionism, and hegemony significantly on the rise. Local conflicts and turmoil are frequent, and global issues are intensifying. Domestically, the deep-seated contradictions in reform, development, and stability are unavoidable and cannot be bypassed. Our country's development has entered a period where strategic opportunities coexist with risks and challenges, and the factors of uncertainty and unpredictability are increasing.

Our Party must examine itself in light of the demands of the times, alert itself with a strong sense of urgency, and forge itself with the spirit of self-revolution. Only by continuously improving its leadership and governance capabilities can it ensure that it always stays at the forefront of the times amidst the profound changes in the global landscape, remains the backbone of the entire nation in the face of various domestic and international risks and challenges, and continues to be the strong leading core in the historical process of upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics. This will better propel the great social revolution forward.

Our Party has undergone revolution, construction, and reform, transitioning from a party that led the people in the struggle to seize national power to a party that leads the people in holding national power and governing long-term. In the face of a glorious history and great achievements, some people may easily overlook their own shortcomings and ignore their own problems under the halo of governance performance, falling into the situation where "it is easy to revolutionize others but difficult to revolutionize oneself." A fortress is most easily breached from within. With such a large party as ours, no external force can defeat us; the only thing that can defeat us is ourselves.

The Communist Party of China, committed to the grand cause of the Chinese nation for generations, must always maintain the clarity and determination of "being on a perpetual test," forge and temper itself with the spirit of daring to revolutionize itself, and promptly eliminate various hidden dangers that undermine the Party's ruling foundation. Only by doing so can the Party continuously consolidate its long-term ruling position and remain invincible forever.
