In response to the severe situation of telecom and online fraud crimes involving Chinese citizens in the Myawaddy region of Myanmar, the Ministry of Public Security has continued to strengthen law enforcement cooperation with Myanmar and Thailand, making every effort to advance joint crackdown efforts.
At the end of this year, with the strong support of our embassies and consulates in Thailand and Myanmar, the Ministry of Public Security dispatched working groups to these countries. They held multiple rounds of talks and consultations with the local law enforcement agencies, reaching a consensus to further strengthen trilateral law enforcement cooperation among China, Myanmar, and Thailand. The agreement includes exploring the establishment of a joint mechanism to combat crimes, particularly targeting transnational offenses such as telecom fraud and human trafficking.
Recently, police forces from China, Myanmar, and Thailand have intensified their efforts to jointly crack down on telecommunications and online fraud crimes in the Myawaddy region. Thailand has implemented measures such as cutting off electricity, internet, and fuel supplies to the area, while also strengthening patrols and controls along the Thai-Myanmar border to firmly block the illegal crossing and transfer channels for fraud suspects. Myanmar has deployed forces to conduct concentrated raids on fraud compounds in the Myawaddy region, apprehending suspects involved in fraud and rescuing trapped Chinese citizens.
Through close collaboration and joint efforts by the three parties, significant progress has been made in the crackdown, leading to the arrest of a large number of suspects involved in fraud from the Myawaddy region of Myanmar. On [specific date], Myanmar transferred the first batch of [number] Chinese nationals suspected of fraud to Mae Sot, Thailand, for repatriation to China.
